Traci Temmen M.D. Tampa

Revision Brazilian Butt Lift in Tampa, FL

Brazilian Butt Lift Revision SurgeryWith the rise in popularity of the Brazilian butt lift surgery (BBL), so too rises the number of revision Brazilian butt lifts.  Dr. Traci Temmen is a renowned female plastic surgeon in Tampa, Florida who specializes in BBL surgery as well as revision Brazilian butt lifts.  Dr. Temmen is known for her meticulous surgical technique, calming bedside manner, and dedication to performing safe BBL surgery and revision Brazilian butt lifts.

Recently, the Florida Law for BBLs has changed for patients’ safety. The new law states that a surgeon cannot perform more than 3 BBLs in one day, and must inject fat under ultrasound guidance to prevent fat embolisms from occurring. The limit of 4000cc of fat removal during this procedure remains intact. Dr. Temmen continues to adhere to Florida requirements.

How is a Revision Brazilian Butt Lift Different Than a Primary BBL?

In general, revision Brazilian butt lifts are more difficulty to perform than the original, or primary, BBL.  In a patient who has already had liposuction, it may be difficult to find adequate amounts of remaining fat to transfer to the buttocks.  Additionally, performing liposuction in an area that has already had liposuction can be difficult because of scar formation.  The scar tissue results in more bleeding, the possibility of skin damage, and an increased risk of injury to surrounding structures.  Similarly, fat transfer to an area that has already had fat transferred into it can result in less tissue expansion and an overall smaller amount of fat “take” or survival.

For this reason, it is important that your redo BBL surgeon have extensive experience in revision liposuction, fat transfer, scar release, and Brazilian butt lift surgery in general.  Dr. Traci Temmen routinely performs redo BBL surgery in her practice in South Tampa.

Candidates for a Revision Brazilian Butt Lift

Anyone who is healthy enough to undergo elective surgery, has realistic expectations, and is unhappy with their original Brazilian butt lift surgery is a potential candidate for a revision BBL.  Some patients may consider a redo Brazilian butt lift if they have asymmetries, are unhappy with their shape, or would like other small adjustments.  Other patients simply want more volume or projection in their buttocks and decide to go for “Round 2.”  If a second BBL surgery was anticipated from the beginning, new areas of liposuction will be harvested to provide the fat for the Round 2 BBL.

Who is Not a Candidate for a Redo Brazilian Butt Lift?

A patient with a history of major medical problems, smoking, or blood clots is not a candidate for elective surgery.  Dr. Traci Temmen thoroughly discusses each patient’s goals for surgery and performs a detailed physical examination during the initial patient consultation.  This allows her to properly manage patient expectations, hopes, and fears.

Revision Brazilian Butt Lift Scars

If the same areas are to have liposuction during a redo BBL, Dr. Traci Temmen can often perform the surgery through the existing scars.  If different areas of the body will be used as donor sites in order to obtain enough fat for a revision BBL, Dr. Temmen will likely have to place additional small scars on the body.  In general, liposuction cannula scars are very small, less than half an inch, and can be well concealed.  Similarly, depending on the previous scar placement and the areas to be injected, Dr. Temmen may or may not be able to use the existing buttock scars to perform the fat transfer portion of the operation.

Recovering from Revision Brazilian Butt Lift

Revision Brazilian butt lift recovery is similar to that of the original operation.  Dr. Traci Temmen recommends her patients take 7-10 days off work, avoid prolonged sitting for at least two weeks, wear compression garments for six weeks, and avoid strong exercise for six weeks.  Drains are placed during a redo BBL and usually are removed in the office after 7-14 days.  Out of town patients should expect to remain in Tampa, Florida for 10-12 days after surgery.

Perhaps surprising to some, a revision BBL often takes longer to perform than a primary Brazilian butt lift.  Additional liposuction to areas of the body that have already had liposuction is more difficult, tedious, and Dr. Temmen must take additional time and care to avoid injury to the overlying skin or other structures.  If new parts of the body are being treated with liposuction, these areas are often smaller with less overall fat, and require frequent position and equipment changes.  All of these maneuvers can increase the time needed to perform a redo BBL.  A revision BBL in Dr. Temmen’s hands can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to perform, and occasionally more.

How Much Does a Revision Brazilian Butt Lift Cost?

The price of a revision BBL in Tampa with Dr. Traci Temmen varies depending on the complexity of surgery, desired procedures, and anticipated time in the operating room.  The final price of your redo BBL will be given to you by Dr. Temmen’s staff during your initial consultation in the office or via virtual consultation.  This price includes all preoperative and postoperative appointments, the surgical fee, the cost of anesthesia and the operating room, and the initial postoperative compression garment.  The only items not included in this price are the prescribed medications, preoperative laboratory or imaging work, and any secondary garments the patient wishes to purchase.

Risks of Brazilian Butt Lift Revision Surgery

The risks of a redo Brazilian butt lift, or round 2 BBL, include all of the risks associated with the primary surgery as well as the increased risk of contour deformity and/or skin damage.  These risks are particularly increased if liposuction is to be performed in areas of the body that have already had liposuction.

Fortunately, Dr. Traci Temmen follows each patient very closely in the days and weeks following surgery in order to diagnose and treat any issues that may arrive.  To lower the risk of serious complications like blood clots in the legs or lungs, Dr. Temmen and her surgical team apply sequential compression devices to the lower extremities during surgery, ensure patients are ambulating the same day of surgery, and have all patients were lower extremity compression socks for two weeks after surgery.  To prevent deadly complications like fat emboli, Dr. Temmen performs only subcutaneous fat transfer to the buttocks and avoids injecting fat into the gluteal muscle where the large, pelvic vessels are located.  This precise nature of fat transfer improves overall patient safety and ensures a superior aesthetic outcome.

Dr. Traci Temmen is a board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience performing liposuction, fat transfer, Brazilian butt lifts, and redo BBLs.  She is conscientious, a skilled surgical technician, and up to date on surgical advances and patient safety standards.
