Planning for Your Surgery as an Out-of-Town Patient at Temmen Plastic Surgery

Following your consultation with Dr. Temmen and when you determine you are ready to proceed with surgery, simply contact your patient coordinator via email or telephone to make your deposit and reserve your desired surgical date. At this time, your patient coordinator will also schedule your preoperative appointment with Dr. Temmen at Temmen Plastic Surgery Center.  Preoperative appointments for our out-of-town patients are generally scheduled one to two days prior to the day of surgery.

Dr. Temmen is usually booked two to three months in advance; However, due to cancellations, and depending on the complexity and length of your desired procedure, it may be possible to schedule your surgery sooner. A $1,500 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your selected surgery date; This can be paid over the phone with a debit or credit card or via certified check sent through the mail.  The remaining balance is due one month prior to surgery.

After securing your surgery date, your patient coordinator will send you a personalized preoperative surgery packet containing additional information on your scheduled procedure(s), pre- and postoperative instructions, surgical consents, and requisition for preoperative laboratory studies and/or testing as recommended by Dr. Temmen. Your required diagnostic testing results will be due in our office no later than 30 days prior to your surgery date. You will review this information, paperwork, and all preoperative testing with Dr. Traci Temmen and her Nurse Practitioner during your preoperative phone call one month prior to surgery.

We know it can feel overwhelming planning for your destination cosmetic procedure at Temmen Plastic Surgery, but take a deep breath, relax, and lean on our team for guidance.  We help our patients with these exact logistics every day and we will be with you every step of the way.  Though every patient’s needs and surgical plan differ, below are some general guidelines for planning your stay in Tampa, Florida.

When should I plan to arrive prior to my surgery date?

Depending on your procedure, we recommend that most patients arrive in Tampa, Florida one to two days prior to their scheduled surgical date.  This gives Dr. Temmen and her staff time to perform a thorough examination and history during your preoperative appointment, review the surgical consents, as well as finalize any paperwork, laboratory studies, or imaging studies if necessary.

Postoperative Care

You will see Dr. Temmen or her Nurse Practitioner at Temmen Plastic Surgery the day after surgery for your first postoperative appointment. You will then follow-up with Dr. Temmen, or her Nurse Practitioner, multiple times during your recovery in Tampa. We also like to see our out-of-town patients for six weeks following surgery, but we understand this may not be possible, particularly those traveling from out of the country. In that case, we can successfully manage your long-term recovery through photographs, emails, and Telehealth. The required number of days Dr. Temmen will require you to stay in town after surgery is specific to each procedure and is listed below. If/when you return to Tampa for business or leisure, we request you schedule a follow-up appointment with us at that time.

How long will I need to stay in town after my procedure?

Dr. Traci Temmen prioritizes her patients’ safety and recovery and examines all patients the day after surgery.  This ensures you are healing appropriately, tolerating your medications, and are able to eat and drink. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, meaning no overnight hospital or surgery center stay is required- you will be able to recover in the comfort of your hotel or accommodations of your choosing from day one!  Below is a rough estimate for necessary length of stay in Tampa following surgery at the Temmen Plastic Surgery, but please keep in mind that every patient recovers differently.

Patient Questionnaire

Photographic Standards for Plastic Surgery Patients

In preparation for your consultation with Dr. Temmen, please complete the Patient Questionnaire and submit your photographs.  Please refer to Dr. Temmen’s Guidelines for Plastic Surgery Patient Photographs for instructions on how to take the required photographs.

General Guidelines:

If possible, please have someone take your preoperative photos for you.  Do not wear clothing or accessories (including glasses, jewelry, or a bra or underwear) over the surgical area of your body.  Secure long hair in a ponytail or bun so it is not seen in the photographs.  Try to take consultation photos against an uncluttered, solid, and medium to dark background.

For lateral and oblique views, move your feet and turn your entire body, do not simply rotate the area of the body in question.  In general, please submit at least five photos including a front view, right lateral, right oblique, left lateral, and left oblique view.  When surgery is being performed on the trunk or legs (i.e. a Brazilian butt lift, mommy makeover, tummy tuck, liposuction of the legs, leg lift, etc…) please also submit a posterior, or back, view.

Front View- feet directly facing the camera for a direct, forward-facing photo

Lateral (Side) View- feet perpendicular to the line of view of the camera

Oblique (3/4) View- feet positioned approximately 45 degrees away from the camera

Posterior (Back) View- feet positioned 180 degrees away from the camera

Basal View- head tilted all the way up, looking directly at the ceiling
