A Smarter Way to Smooth

What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin is a prescription treatment that contains incobotulinumtoxinA, a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. It works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. As these muscles relax, the skin above them looks smoother.

Xeomin is used for dynamic wrinkles that come from repeated facial movements. It doesn’t add volume or change the skin’s surface, so deeper wrinkles or texture changes might need a different treatment. Xeomin doesn’t have accessory proteins, but it does contain human albumin and sucrose as inactive ingredients. Its formula is different from Botox Cosmetic, but neither one is always better than the other.

The Lines You Notice Most

What Can Xeomin Treat?

Xeomin is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe upper facial lines in adults. The approved treatment areas include vertical glabellar lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, and crow's feet around the outer eyes.

Careful placement of Xeomin can reduce these wrinkles while keeping natural expression in other areas. Xeomin is also approved for some medical conditions, but our focus is on its cosmetic use. Your provider will discuss your treatment area and create a plan based on your needs.

You, With Less Tension

Benefits of Xeomin

Many people choose Xeomin because it can improve your appearance without surgery or a long recovery. Benefits may include:

  • Softer frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet
  • Natural results that preserve facial expression
  • A quick treatment with little interruption to your routine
  • No incisions or general anesthesia
  • Temporary results that can be adjusted over time
  • A formulation without accessory proteins

Getting natural results depends on careful placement, your muscle strength, and having a treatment plan that matches what you can realistically expect.

What to Know Before You Book

Am I a Candidate for Xeomin?

You may be a good candidate if you’re a healthy adult with dynamic wrinkles on your upper face, understand that results are temporary, and have realistic expectations.

You should not receive Xeomin if you have a skin infection at the planned injection site or have had allergic reactions to Xeomin, its ingredients, or another botulinum toxin product. Tell your provider about all medical conditions, recently received injections, and prescription drugs. This includes bleeding problems, swallowing problems, certain breathing problems, drooping eyelids, and disorders affecting the muscles or nerves, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.

Also report muscle relaxants, injected or inhaled antibiotics, sleep medicine, and allergy or cold medicine. Do not start new medicines without telling your healthcare provider that you received Xeomin. Treatment is generally postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding because the effects are not fully known.

Planning Makes the Difference

Consultation and Preparation

Your provider will talk with you about your goals, past treatments, medications, and health conditions. They’ll also look at your face both at rest and while moving. Factors like muscle strength, any asymmetry, and how different areas relate help decide where and how much Xeomin to use.

Arrive with a clean face when possible and share any history of negative side effects from injectable treatment. If you take medication that affects bleeding, do not stop it without guidance from the clinician who prescribed it. Patients preparing for a wedding, vacation, or other social event should leave enough time for possible injection site bruising to fade and for the final result to develop.

In, Out, Refreshed

The Xeomin Procedure

After cleaning the treatment area, your provider may ask you to make certain facial expressions to find the right muscles. Xeomin is injected in small amounts with a fine needle. Most people feel only quick pinches, and the process is usually fast. You might notice small bumps, redness, tenderness, or bruising where you were injected. Most people can go back to work, run errands, or do other normal activities right after their appointment.

A Gradual, Natural Refresh

Xeomin Results

Most people start to see results from Xeomin in three to seven days, with more improvement as the muscles relax. The results look natural, softening lines on the upper face while keeping normal movement and expression. Deep wrinkles that show even when your face is resting might get better, but sometimes other treatments like SkinPen microneedling, chemical peels, fillers, or medical-grade skincare are also helpful.

Results usually last three to four months. For some people, Xeomin can last up to six months, but this is less common. How long it lasts depends on things like your dose, treatment area, metabolism, muscle strength, and how your body responds.

Both Xeomin and Botox Cosmetic relax expression lines and usually last three to four months. Xeomin has incobotulinumtoxinA without accessory proteins, while Botox has onabotulinumtoxinA with extra proteins. Some people who didn’t respond well to another botulinum toxin may benefit from Xeomin, but it does not guarantee longer results or prevent resistance. The units for each product are not interchangeable.

Back to Your Day

Recovery and Aftercare

You don’t need to take time off after Xeomin. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, headache, or bruising at the injection site usually go away in a few days. Be sure to follow Temmen Plastic Surgery's aftercare tips, like not rubbing the area, avoiding hard exercise, staying out of excessive heat, or not lying flat for a short time.

Less common side effects of Xeomin include drooping eyelids, uneven facial features, or allergic reactions like itching, swelling, wheezing, or feeling faint. Serious side effects are rare but can be life-threatening. If the botulinum toxin spreads, it can cause weakness or serious problems with speaking, swallowing, or breathing, sometimes hours or weeks after treatment. Get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing, swallowing, or notice signs of inhaling food or liquid.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of Xeomin varies based on the number of units needed, the areas being treated, your muscle strength, and the results you want to achieve. During your consultation, our medspa team will assess your facial anatomy and create a personalized treatment plan. You’ll receive a clear quote before moving forward with treatment.

Both Xeomin and Botox usually last three to four months. For some people, Xeomin can last up to six months, but this isn’t the case for everyone.

Yes, you can switch. Let your provider know which other botulinum toxin you have used, when you had injections, and how you responded. This information helps us choose Xeomin and plan your dose safely.

With careful placement and the right dose, Xeomin relaxes only the targeted muscles, so you keep natural movement in the rest of your face. The aim is to smooth lines, not to freeze your expressions.

As Xeomin wears off, your muscle activity slowly returns, and wrinkles gradually reappear. Stopping treatment will not make your wrinkles worse than they would have been if you never used Xeomin.
